With the recent inscription of Penang and Malacca as Unesco’s World Heritage Sites, its people – from trishawmen to cendol sellers – are standing tall in the knowledge that their invaluable historic and cultural legacy has finally won recognition.
To young Penangites, George Town's recent inscription together with Malacca as “Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca” in the Unesco World Heritage Site is a reminder that they have taken their heritage for granted. To tourists, the recognition means that Penang is now a “must visit” in their holiday itinerary.
The state government will hold a 3 days celebration which will begin on July 25 with a “Jom George Town” assembly at City Hall where the Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will officiate the event.
Below are the information pack which will be given out to the public during the three days event (managed to obtained them from a secret agent...haha).

A crowd of 20,000 is expected for the event, it may be more... (as Penang Lang is famous for "Soo Lang Boh Soo Thin") and it's estimated that the 3 days celebration will cost about RM 300,000 (fully sponsored by cultural bodies and associations as well as the corporate sector).

The declaration will be followed by fireworks lighting up the promenade.
I sincerely urged all Penangites to participate (how i wish i am there as well..) as i believe the activities and performances to be carried out will leave a deep impression on Penangites.
